Automatic Drawings

Instruction

Duration: 9 hours

Materials: a checked notebook or album, pencils, pens, markers, etc.

  1. Prepare the workspace so nothing will distract you. Remove objects from your desk that may distract your focus. Find a comfortable position where your body feels relaxed throughout the practice. If you experience back pain, prepare some soft pillows. Try to put thoughts of everyday things aside and focus on being meditative.

  1. Start moving your pencil across the paper without restriction. These may just be lines. If there are associations as you draw, expand on the lines to transform them into recognizable images. When you achieve a state of flow, try to keep going. You will discover that images will come out of your unconsciousness.

  1. The exercise is divided into three phases: 15 minutes to enter, 60 minutes to authorize, ±15 minutes for discussion; and 30 minutes to exit.

  1. Participants have 60 minutes of rest.

  1.  After an hour, they take pictures of their work and post them to the group chat. If there are multiple pages, participants can choose to share all or only some of them. At this point, participants can share thoughts on each other's drawings and comment on their own work, or they can choose not to comment.

  1. It is acceptable to exchange feedback during the session, but it is important to remember that others may be immersed in their work, so a sudden comment could distract them.

  1.  Participants can simply watch other people create if they are tired.

  1. Those who joined after the start quickly greet those who were there already.

  1. The camera focuses on the drawing and the microphone is active.
