The Walk /Together Apart/
Participants go outside, join a video call, and take a walk wherever they are. Along the way, they may share their observations and sensations.
Practice Instructions
Participants go outside, join a video call, and take a walk wherever they are. Along the way, they may share their observations and sensations.
1. Planning
Participants agree on the day, time, and duration of the practice in advance.
At the scheduled time, they connect via video call and begin walking.
Cameras and microphones are on and pointed toward the participant.
2. Opening and Closing
Opening: A brief check-in—greetings, a few words about how each person is feeling, and an introduction by the facilitator.
Closing: Participants share what they noticed—both around them and within themselves. They thank each other and say goodbye.
3. Focus of the Practice
This is a mindful walk with an emphasis on witnessing one another.
-
The walk may or may not have a destination, fixed route, or pace. These elements can shift freely during the practice.
-
Participants are invited to gently bring awareness to their sensory experience:
sight, sound, touch, smell, temperature, and any other bodily sensations.
You may move from a diffuse awareness to a more focused, intentional attention.
4. Participation
Everyone is a co-participant and is welcome to share observations.
However, sharing should be gentle and not distract or interrupt others’ experience.
